SportingPulse
Case Study: Optus Mobile Partnership

To develop three co-branded mobile applications that the SportingPulse community would use on a regular basis, resulting in daily Optus engagement and communication with grassroots participants, fans and family.

Target Market:

All SportingPulse web enabled mobile phone users.

The Products:
  • Mobile Portal - The first application developed was a mobile portal through which all grassroots sports participants could access their competition Fixtures and Results information from the convenience of their mobile phone.
  • iPhone App - The mobile portal functionality was included in an iPhone app, but expanded to allow users the ability to update their status and upload photos and videos to their mySport online profile in a Facebook-like format.
  • Mobile SMS Communicator - The third application, gave authorised users (SportingPulse club website administrators) the ability to setup an online SMS account where they could purchase SMS credits, create contact groups from their membership database and send group club/team SMS messages using their mobile phone.
The Result:

Uptake of the mobile applications has been strong with the mySport Scoreboard iPhone app breaking into the Top 10 Free Apps in Australia of the iTunes App Store.

More than 40% of unique users access the app more than once a day, and mobile site traffic quadrupled and the number of visitors increased by 260% in May.
