Technology for Champions

Safety online

SportingPulse works diligently to provide all users with a safe and friendly environment to enjoy sports news, statistics and interaction with other members.

The SportingPulse Network reaches millions of people in the sporting world, all of who have an important role to play in keeping the community safe.

SportingPulse is dedicated to helping you keep yourself and your family safe online. SportingPulse is a major partner of the SOSO (Smart Online, Safe Offline) campaign, which aims to educate kids on how to protect themselves online and the dangers of giving away too much information.

We hope you, your family and friends will find this safety information useful. SportingPulse
is committed to keeping people safe online through new technology, partnerships with safety organisations and by supporting new laws that will nurture the growth of online safety, education and research.

While we try to make the SportingPulse Network as safe and friendly as possible, there are still some things you need to be mindful of, particularly when communicating online and uploading information.

Smart Online Checklist

• If under 18, ask your parents before you give anyone on the internet your name, address, phone number, or any other personal details. This also includes the name of your school, your photo or any personal information about your friends or family. If over 18, think carefully about the information you provide online. Consider your privacy and that of your family and friends.

• Keep your password secret, never give it to anyone. This is your unique key to unlock personal information online.

• Meeting people online might be fun, but remember the people you meet online may not be who they say they are.

• If you want to meet someone you have so far only met online, ask a parent or another adult to go with you and always meet in a popular public place, preferably during the day.

• If someone writes something rude or something that makes you feel uncomfortable in chat or email, don’t respond. Report it to the site’s administrator or SportingPulse as inappropriate content.

• Be careful about the kind of information you put in a Sports Log or post to a MessageBoard - it doesn’t take much to give away your identity.

• If under 18, tell your parent or another adult you trust if you see upsetting language, nasty pictures or something scary on the internet.

• If under 18, always ask a parent or adult before you fill out any forms, or give out money or credit card details.

• If under 18, always follow your family’s rules on the internet. They’re there to make sure you have fun and stay safe online.

• Don’t accept any offers that seem too good to be true - they probably are.

Remember to always be smart online. Protect your privacy.
